Blurb:
Summer Davis sees deaths before they happen. She attempts to live a normal life by focusing on the dance team and her quarterback boyfriend. But then the way-too-cheery Angel of Death shows up and tells her she’s a Cipher—a person chosen to help people who are going to die resolve problems with their loved ones. Ashlyn Moore, one of Summer’s classmates, is going to die, and she needs Summer’s help before that happens.

It’s nearly impossible to get through to Ashlyn, who surrounds herself with chess nerds and geeks and makes it clear she doesn’t want to be friends. Desperate to complete her Cipher task before it’s too late, Summer turns to Troy, the guy who’s always been there for her and one of the few people she can trust. With his help, she makes progress. In fact, the closer she gets to Ashlyn and her friends, the more she feels like she’s finally found where she belongs.

As the clock starts running down on Ashlyn’s life, Summer decides to change her objective. She’s going to save her new friend before it’s too late—even if it means messing with fate

I enjoyed this book and liked that it wasn't just about her assignment. It's about relationships and how people can come into your life  completely altering the way you view your world. Summer has to get to know Ashlyn and help her patch things up with her mother but she never expects how much this girl gets her. As their friendship blossoms, Ashlyn' s predicted death seems unfair and she has to find a way to save her.

Summer also has to deal with the pressures from a boyfriend who swears that he loves her but feels they need to move to the next phase because he's tired of waiting for her. Her best friend Kendall is a snob, who feels Summer's dumping them for the nerds. Troy, her friends sees the change in her and hopes that the girl he once knew is coming back but Summer is all over the place emotionally and he can't tell what's really going with her. Summer finds herself being pulled in many directions and she must find a way to balance out all before she loses her mind and herself?

This a good story about life and not leaving unfinished business because the next breath you take could be your last. The friendship between Summer and Ashlyn was real and knowing what her future may hold is sad. I hurt for the girls and even watered up a bit. Summer is a normal teenager with a special gift that sucks and she reacts with sarcasm and stubbornness. As she gradually understands more, she will begin to realize more about herself and her family. On another note, Troy is amazing, he has a hint of mystery about him and he's a very great friend to Summer when she needs him. Overall, I liked all the different situations that Sumner had to deal with and how she wishes through them. The writing and story are well paced. Overall, this is a good story about family, death, love and friendship that I would recommend to teens looking for materials on these subjects.

About Cindi:
Cindi Madsen sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier. She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they’re sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children. She is the author of YA novels All the Broken Pieces and Demons of the Sun, adult contemporary romances Falling for Her Fiancé and Act Like You love Me, and the women's fiction novel Cinderella Screwed Me Over.
